DCU Fashion Show 2006
- 27 January 2006

The very first DCU Fashion Show, in aid of Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, will take place on Wednesday, March 8th, in The Helix

The show promises an eclectic blend of fashion, dance and entertainment and also celebrates the 25th Anniversary of DCU. The event, hosted by RTE’s “Off the Rails” presenter, Pamela Flood, will include a spectacular “Seven Deadly Sins” themed catwalk show, the DCU Young Designer of the Year Awards, performances by Ireland’s premiere percussion group, Extreme Rhythm, and a VIP cocktail reception.

“It’s going to be the biggest student event ever held in DCU”, says Fashion Show Co-ordinator Mikey Robinson. "It’s certainly going to rival fashion shows of other Dublin universities. It has something for everyone; high street fashions, top Irish designers, an award ceremony and an outstanding interval act!”

On arrival, the audience will walk up the red carpet into the foyer of The Helix, to enjoy a piano reception before the show begins. VIP guests will be invited to attend a separate reception where they can sip on a themed cocktail courtesy of Absolut Vodka. Each guest will be presented with a special gift pack filled with items from our sponsors, which include fm104, AIB, Spar, Hotpress, DCU Sport’s Club, Trispace, Reads, Heatons, Alberti’s Restaurant, Unilever, Elizabeth Arden, Pigsback.com, DCU Student’s Union, and the Office of Student’s Life, DCU.

The fashion on the night will come from stores such as Brown Thomas, BT2, House of Fraser, Awear, Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Principles, Oasis, Esprit, Coco, Genius, Julien and also fashion designers Mia Elmes and Jane Geraghty. Everything from casual daywear, elegant eveningwear and even some sexy lingerie will be modelled by a selection of DCU’s own students. One of the models will win a prestigious contract with one of Ireland’s top modelling agencies, at the end of the show.

In addition to all of this, the audience will be treated to outfits from seven of Ireland’s best student designers in the DCU Young Designer of the Year Awards. The awards are sponsored by Waterford Crystal, who has generously provided a beautifully cut piece as the prize for best design.

Hazel Hayes, Sponsorship Officer for the show says that it is not all about spectacle. “We’re really looking forward to raising a large sum of money for charity in the process. This year’s chosen charity, Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, is a place that we feel greatly needs and deserves our support. And none of this would have been possible without all the help we’ve received from students, staff and sponsors alike.”

The venue for the night, The Helix, situated on DCU’s campus in Glasnevin, has proven itself as one of the country’s most stylish venues, and with its stunning external façade and equally impressive interior foyer, it is the perfect backdrop to the show. The show itself will be held in the Mahony Hall, home of RTE’s “You’re a Star”.

Tickets for the event are available from The Helix Box Office (01-7007000) at only €12 for students and €20 for non-students. Student I.D. must be presented at the door. VIP and corporate tickets are also available at a cost of €35. For more information please visit www.dcufashionshow.com, or e-mail info@dcufashionshow.com
