The Encyclopaedia of Ireland
Book contributors are staff in the Faculty of Humanities and St Patrick's College, edited by Brian Lawlor, Gill & Macmillan

Staff in the Faculty of Humanities and at St Patrick's College are strongly represented among the contributors to the massive Encyclopaedia of Ireland published in September. The 1256-page volume contains over 5,000 entries on the broadest-imaginable range of topics. The contributors include academics from all four schools in the Faculty of Humanities. They are: Professor Michael Cronin, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, three Heads of School, Professor Robert Elgie (Law and Government), Caoilfhionn Nic Phaidin (Fiontar), and Brian Trench (Communications), along with Professor John Horgan, and lecturers Eddie Holt (a consultant contributor on journalism), Peadar Kirby and John Walsh. Mairin Nic Eoin, of St Patrick's College, was a consultant contributor to the Encyclopaedia, and entries were also contributed by St Patrick's College president Pauric Travers and college lecturers James Kelly, Mary Anne Lyons, Ruth McManus, Liam Mac Mathuna, P. J. Mathews, Ciaran O Coighligh, Matthew Short, Mary Thompson and Alan Titley.
