Dr Bill Phillips, 1997 Physics Nobel Laureate, at DCU
21 October 2002

DCU are delighted to announce that Dr Bill Phillips, 1997 Physics Nobel Laureate, will deliver a lecture in The Hub Wednesday 30 October at 4pm entitled 'Almost absolute zero: the story of laser cooling and trapping'.
Gas atoms cooled to a millionth of a degree, just above absolute zero, exhibit different properties. These properties are used in everything from super-accurate atomic clocks to new quantum devices like atom lasers.
The lecture should appeal to a general audience of non-scientists and a specific scientific audience discussing some of the newest and most exciting developments in physics.
