Enterprise Ireland, Ulster Bank Student awards 2002

The Annual Enterprise Ireland, Ulster Bank Student awards 2002 where held in the Corrib Great Southern Hotel on Friday 25 October 2002. These awards encourage students to develop and research an entrepreneurial business plan that has commercial viability and market potential. This year there was a total of 119 entries, from 21 colleges, including DCU who won the College Award category.
The team is from the masters in ECommerce class, run jointly by Computer Applications and DCUBS. The team of postgraduate students comprising Janice Byrne, Ingrid Simmonson, Denise Masterson, Declan Grogan and Ronan Murphy, won the College Award of €2000 for their business idea, Tellus. The prize was presented by Mr Eamon Ó Cuiv td, Minsiter for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.
Tellus is an online supply chain management tool which allows agricultural traders/merchants to source their produce directly from individual producers - thus bypassing the middleman. Traders can post their specific product requirements online and suppliers can post their stock availability thus enabling a reduction in time a reduction in time and cost for both parties.

The team project was based on the work done for the practicum element of the Masters in ECommerce course as well as the entrepreneurship module run by Dr Sarah Ingle from DCUBS. The celebration does not stop there. All five members are also due to graduate with their masters degree this weekend, Friday 1 November 2002.
