Yet again the entrepreneurial bug has bitten Fiontar students. Ruairi O Neil, Carl O Bruachain and Cormac O hEadhra, graduating this autumn from the BSc in Finance, Computing and Enterprise, have set up a company called Imperium.

They are following in the footsteps of Zamano Technologies; a company that was also founded by a group of enterprising Fiontar students from DCU a number of years ago.

The company, based in invent, are a premium rate SMS service provider. SMS stands for short messenger service. It involves text messages being sent on request to a mobile phone user. The text content could include anything from news or, as in this instance, light hearted entertainment. As a mobile phone user, you can receive anything from chat up lines, teasers, and jokes to inventive excuses and all you have to do is text the category that you wish to receive. The number is 53033. It costs between 60 cents with O², and 62 cents with vodaphone, to access the content.

Imperium are involved with Zamano Technologies and Outhouse Advertising in this venture and competed against established companies such as Digifone and iTouch. Imperium are one of the first companies to introduce premium rates for SMS to Ireland, and it is an incredible achievement for a group of students to receive such a license. They have shown tremendous initiative - their business venture is novel, imaginative and adventurous.

The next time you need those few introductory words, text the word 'pickup', all one word, and send it to 53033.
