Liam Ó Cuinneagáin, Chairman of Údarás na Gaeltachta, visits with FIONTAR

Wednesday 12 November 2003 Liam Ó Cuinneagáin, chairman of Údarás na Gaeltachta, visited FIONTAR staff and students. Ó Cuinneagáin, who is also Director of the Donegal-based cultural tourism company, Oideas Gael, spoke about entrepreneurship in the Gaeltacht and the opportunities for Irish speakers to establish businesses there. Oideas Gael was established in 1983 and last year provided courses in Irish language, culture and other actitivities in the Gaeltacht community of Glencolumbkille in west Donegal. FIONTAR students study entrepreneurship in Ireland and also focus on links between language, culture and development.

FIONTAR received a nomination for this year's Aisling Awards which took place in Belfast on 13 November 2003. This is an annual event that recognises excellence in education, business, community development, culture, arts and the Irish language.

The Aisling Awards are sponsored by Bank of Ireland with support from PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Invest Northern Ireland, TG4, and MDS Pharma Services. The Andersonstown Newsgroup, publishers of newspapers in west and north Belfast, and the Irish language daily "Lá", organise this event.

FIONTAR were nominated in the section "The TG4 award for Outstanding Irish Language Endeavour".
