John O'Carroll appointed as Sports and Recreation Officer

John O'Carroll has recently been appointed Sports and Recreation Officer here at DCU. John took up the position on the 11 November 2002.
John, from Letterkenny, Donegal, has a BA in Leisure Management from the University of Birmingham. He has worked in the Sports and Leisure Industry, specifically in the area of Leisure Club Management and Training Development in the public and private sector, for approximately 10 years.
As Sports and Recreation Officer John's role will be to manage and develop all programme's and activities within the Sport & Recreation Service. One specific area will be the strategic development of the sports clubs on campus - this will be achieved by supporting elite sports persons within DCU and promoting participation among as many students.
John's role also involves securing sponsorship for sporting activities and the further development of our facilities. As Sports and Recreation Officer he will also ensure that the Sport's Complex meets its financial targets and that appropriate financial and administrative systems are in place.
The new Aquatic Centre which is currently under construction and due for completion in early 2004 will further develop the services on offer in the Sports Complex and will elevate the complex to one of the best providers of Sport and Recreation in Ireland.
