11 March 2004

Dublin City University has one of the best reputations for supporting students with disabilities in the country. Its Disability Service provides a wide range of supports to students, from educational supports to Assistive Technology support, careers advice and adapted physical activity. Claire Byrne, Head of the Disability Service continues to highlight the importance of attitude, in efforts to maintain a culture of inclusion throughout the University. In recognising that all people have a range of diverse needs and diverse abilities, she believes that people with disabilities should be easily afforded the opportunity to participate in educational and social activities. It is our responsibility to assist people with disabilities overcome the challenges faced by them in society.
The Disability Service in conjunction with the coordinating committee of the European Year of People with Disabilities, is organising the "100 ways to Make the Difference campaign" in DCU on Thursday 11 March between 10.00am and 3.30pm.
The campaign is designed to show everyone that they can do something to make the difference in the lives of people with disabilities, in their everyday activities. It aims to inspire people to ask "what can I do to remove the barriers faced by people with disabilities?" and gives a list of 100 suggestions. Making a pledge is simply making a personal commitment to carry this out.
Come along and sign a pledge card at the 'Make the Difference' stand in the Staff Restaurant or the Hub, or check out www.able.ie
