International Science Medals for Irish Students

Two Irish fifteen-year-old students Naomi Hodgins, King's Hospital School, Lucan, and Anna Feeney, Alexandra College, Milltown, have won bronze medals at the first International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) in Jakarta, Indonesia. Each participating country was invited to send one team of students (minimum), who had not exceed fifteen years of age on 31 October 2004.
Department of Education and Science (DES) agreed that Mr. Michael A. Cotter (DCU) would be the Irish IJSO delegation leader and Dr. Paraic James (DCU- Chemistry) the pedagogical leader. The former was responsible for all aspects of the management of Ireland's participation in the IJSO and the later for the selection and training of the team.
The Irish IJSO delegation was sponsored by the Department of Education and Science (DES), Eli Lilly, Cork and the Institute of Chemistry in Ireland and selected by the DCU Science Faculty Members involved in the Irish and International Science Olympiads.
