Seán Mac Aoire of Foras na Gaeilge presented three Fiontar students with crystal trophies for displaying excellence in particular subject areas as part of the Fiontar degree. Tomás Ó Briain was presented with the computing award, Eoin Ó Mórdha with the award for finance and Ruairí Ó Néill received the award in enterprise studies. (Ciarán Mac an Bhaird, lecturer in finance, accepted the award for Eoin Ó Mórdha, who is currently in Luxemburg on the Intra programme.

For the first time this year, Fiontar also presented five students with scholarships worth €1200 each, again sponsored by Foras na Gaeilge. Tracey Brogan (Year 1 BSc), Tomás Ó Briain (Year 2 BSc), Eoin Ó Mórdha (Year 3 BSc), Róisín Ní Bhaoill (Year 4 BSc) and Caitríona Nic Giolla Mhichíl (MSc in Business and Information Technology) were presented with their cheques by Seán Mac Aoire.

Dr Caoilfhionn Nic Pháidín, Head of Fiontar, stressed the importance of such award schemes. "They give extra incentive to our students as they carry out their coursework here in Fiontar. We welcome the support of Foras na Gaeilge for this scheme".

Fiontar also runs other award schemes, mainly in association with its "enterprise start-up" module in Year four. Students are presented with prizes based on different aspects of the companies they create. These prizes are sponsored by ABN AMRO and Údaras na Gaeltachta as well as Foras na Gaeilge.
