DCU signs cooperative agreements with China

DCU President, Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski, visited the People's Republic of China last week on an education and cultural mission for the university. He was accompanied by Xiaojun Wang of DCU's International Office and Patrick McDermott of the Education Trust. The visit coincided with the Chinese tour of the National Chamber Choir which is resident here at DCU. The Choir performed to sell-out crowds in Shanghai and Beijing as part of the month-long Irish Cultural Festival.

During his four-day visit, Professor von Prondzynski signed cooperative agreements with the Hang Zhou Institute of Electronic Engineering, soon to be Hang Zhou University, and the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. The President also visited No. 101 Middle School in Beijing, one of China's top secondary schools, where he met with students and educators and encouraged the growing partnerships between Ireland and China.

In addition, Professor von Prondzynski held receptions in Shanghai and Beijing with DCU alumni, government officials from China and Ireland, business representatives, journalists, and other friends of the university to discuss Ireland's role in the global economy and the university's critical part in the continued growth and prog ress of the Irish Economy.
