Silver EU Science Medals for Irish students
26 May 2002

Two Irish student teams won silver medals at the 2nd European Union Science Olympiad (EUSO2004). The third team was awarded a bronze medal. Fifteen EU countries participated in the 2nd EUSO from the 2nd - 8th May in Groningen University, the Netherlands. The Irish teams were selected at the Irish Science Olympiad held in DCU last December. The EUSO Irish team members were the medal winners in the under sixteen Biology, Chemistry and Physics sections of the competition. The teams were trained in DCU prior to their departure by Dr. Sharon Davin (Biology), Dr. Odilla Finlayson (Chemistry) and Dr. Paul van Kampen (Physics) who were also the mentors to the Irish teams in Groningen University, the Netherlands. Mr. Michael A. Cotter (DCU) is the EUSO president.

Ireland hosted the 1st EUSO in DCU in April 2003. It is hoped that EUSO2005 will take place in the Czech Republic followed by Belgium (2006), Germany (2007) and Spain (2008).
