DCU will celebrate 'Seachtain na Gaeilge 2003' from the 10-14 March with a host of different activities on and off campus. The celebration is taking place during Irelands national Irish language week, a series of activities celebrating our national language and culture, coinciding with St.Patrick's Day.

The activities include:

  • · The official launch by Louise McDermott at 'Cúinne na Gaeilge' (Irish Language seating area) in the main DCU restaurant at 1.00p.m. on Monday 10/03/03
  • Daily screenings of a series of Irish Language medium short films from 2.00p.m. -3.00p.m. in the DCU Business School.
  • A Cumann Gaelach Irish language medium Quiz for students in the University Bar
  • A Trad.Soc recital in the HUB
  • Athletic feats with the ancient hurling/camogie skill of the 'Poc Fada' in Hampstead Park

Everyone on campus is invited to attend the activities and use whatever Irish they have, from the 'cúpla focal' to 'díospóireachtaí dáiríre i gcúinne na Gaeilge!'

The activities have been co-ordinated by the DCU Irish Language Development Officer Caitríona Nic Giolla Mhichíl and organised in conjunction with The DCU Student Union Irish Language Officer Maeve Moloney, An Cumann Gaelach DCU and the Trad.Soc. DCU.

Further information on the weeks activities can be sought from caitríona.nicgiollamhichil@dcu.ie

The week is organised on a national basis by Conradh na Gaeilge/The Gaelic League. It was founded in 1893 by Douglas Hyde who later became the first president of Ireland. The headquarters are located on Harcourt Street, Dublin 2.
