Catriona Nic Giolla Mhichíl appointed as Irish Language Development Officer

Ms Catriona Nic Giolla Mhichíl has been appointed Irish Language Development officer here at DCU. Catriona took up her position on the 8 September this year.
Caitríona, from Drumcondra in Dublin, has a BA in Irish and History from UCD, a Higher Diploma in Education from UCC and is graduating this year from Fiontar with a MSc in Business and Information Technology - Dioplóma do Chéimithe i nGnó agus i dTeicneolaíocht an Eolais.
As Irish Language Development officer Catriona's role will be to promote the Irish Language within the university. This will be achieved, firstly, with Irish language classes that take place on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime, the former for beginners and the later for intermediate Irish speakers. Thursday's class is called 'An Ciorcal Comhrá' which means 'The Conversation Circle'.
Catriona's role also involves co-ordinating the marketing in Fiontar for the undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. She will be involved in future Fiontar research into undergraduate Irish speaking scholarships for the Northern Ireland and the setting up of a Fiontar Alumni.
Coiste na Gaeilge, the university Irish committee, also promotes Irish speaking within the University. Michael Cronin, Dean of Humanities, is the Head of this committee and Catriona is the secretary.
