DCU students get on the buses ...
31 October 2002

Accessibility is one of the primary criteria used by students when choosing a university. So, DCU has launched an awareness campaign to promote the sixteen bus routes serving the campus in Glasnevin.
"We believe students should always pick the degree programme that most interests them" student officer, Ita Tobin said. "However, it is a shame that some students don't realise how accessible DCU is by public transport and therefore miss out on the choice of degrees we offer."
DCU decided to tackle the problem through a combination of citylite bus shelter sites and in-school posters. The posters depict real students: Louise, a first-year nurse, Alan, who is studying mathematical sciences, and Robbie, an engineering student. The posters show the routes of the buses - including some cross-city and express routes. They also play on the university's reputation for getting undergraduates ready for their future careers: "Who's got more connections than Dublin Bus?" sports the t-shirt worn by Robbie while Alan and Louise wear the message "You can go anywhere in the world from here."
"Although many students live on campus (700 with a further 300 residences under construction) or within walking or cycling distance, we want prospective students living within the commuting belt to realise that it is quite easy to get here by public transport." Ita Tobin added.
Direct bus routes serving DCU: 3, 11, 11A, 11B, 13, 13A, 16, 17A, 19A, 41, 46X, 58X, 77B, 103, 105, 116.
