Get Active
2 July 2002

DCU Sports Complex has received funding amounting to €1500 from Go For Life, the programme for sport and physical activity for older people in Ireland, supported by the Irish Sports Council. The Sports Complex has also funded the programme to the amount of €1200.
The funding will part finance the 'Get Active' programme which is an introduction to physical activity for older people. The pilot programme will take place for two days a week, over five weeks, starting the 27 August. The fee for the course is €30 per person. Each session will last for 1.5 hours and will cover lifestyle issues (such as diet and home security) and exercise ranging from aerobics to Tai-Chi. If these classes prove successful the programme will continue.
It is hoped that members from the 'Get Active' classes will take part in the 'Active For Life' programme, also run by the Sports Complex. This programme is designed to educate people who have experienced heart problems, or those of us who simply wish to improve our current cardiovascular health.
