herity in the DCU cup final
Herity Marksmanship Paves Way for DCU Hurling Win

A magnificent exhibition of point-scoring by Colin Herity helped DCU to a deserved victory over St. Patrick's in the Ryan Cup Final at Dangan.
Herity pointed ten frees from a variety of angles as DCU denied the Teacher Training College what would have been the double as they had already won the football title the previous week.
Apart from Herity's incredible marksmanship, this game was also noteworthy for the excellent standard of hurling and, in particular, the ground striking and a display of superb goal-keeping by both net minders.
There was little to choose between the sides in the opening half and Herity who, incidentally, was marked by his brother David at midfield, helped himself to five points as DCU led 0-9 to 0-6 at half time. The second half was just a minute old, when Fergus McMahon showed the benefit of a first-time pull in the square and the sliothar nestled in the back of the St. Pat's net.
It was the decisive score of a marvellous second half, as Pat's battled bravely to add the hurling title to the football already won.
However, the DCU defence, in which Brendan Franks and Oisin Breathnach were magnificent, held firm and the excellence of Willie Doran, son of former Wexford stalwart Colm, and Fergus McMahon were a constant threat to an over-worked St. Pat's defence.
