The night in the Cobblestone Pub

Our first female chaplain was quite a character. Sister Bernie was always there to celebrate or to console, and for that she was considered a very remarkable woman. She was held in such high regard that when she left DCU two years ago to go to South America, staff and students wanted to demonstrate just how much they admired her.
What better way to show support for Sr Bernie than to raise money for her newest venture - working with underprivileged families in Venezuela. The Cobblestone Pub in the heart of Smithfield Market was the venue for a musical evening just before Christmas. £1,300 was raised during the evening itself, with a further £2,000 being donated as a result of other fund-raising events.
Ciaran Condren, a business graduate from 1996, came up with the original concept for the event, and he approached Father John in the Interfaith Centre for support. Over 20 singers took part in what was a very successful fund-raising event.
DCU sends Sr Bernie every good wish. We will hopefully be able to include a few words from her in a future edition of Online News.
