Henry Dempsey, a Business Studies final year student, has won a €2,000 college award in the 2003 Enterprise Ireland/Ulster Bank National Student Enterprise Awards. Mary Harney, Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment presented the awards in Trinity College on 10 April 2003.

Henry's award winning project is a Protective Sports Sock to be used when playing GAA football and hurling. The protective sports gear is designed to take the place of traditional shin guards which is made from aeroprene latex rubber. This material is very flexible allowing increased mobility, and covers from the knee to the ankle to protect a much greater portion of the leg.

This is the 20th year of the Enterprise Ireland/Ulster Bank Student Awards and the first year that it has been an all Ireland competition. Carlow Institute of Technology won the overall award with a domestic water recyling project called Aquacycle.
