The Access Service runs two Planet Discovery Camps each year aimed at promoting science and maths as fun, stimulating subjects. The camps highlight the science and maths that are all around us in our everyday lives. Participants begin each day with a science demonstration and then get the chance to work on experiments themselves creating all kinds of interesting things! The afternoons focus on science outside the laboratory. The basic rules of physics are explained through trampolining (what goes up must come down!) and bowling. They also look up related websites in an internet workshop.

We hope to encourage participants to consider science and maths at higher level for their Junior Certificate.

Our participants are 5th class students attending a feeder national school to our 16 link second level schools. The camps are run in co-operation with the DCU schools of Chemistry and Physics. Each camp is two days in duration with 15 participants on each.
