John Walsh receives award from Oireachtas na Gaeilge

John Walsh, Fiontar, was awarded first prize in Prós tuairisciúil, Descriptive Pros, by Oireachtas Literary Awards for his book entitled Díchoimisiúnú Teanga: Coimisiún na Gaeltachta 1926. The Oireachtas awards are the highlight of the literary year in Irish language circles. The Irish Language Book Board sponsor this Descriptive Pros category and the award was presented by Vivian Uíbh Eachach on behalf of the Irish Language Book Board.
The Annual Oireachtas na Gaeilge Literary Awards took place in the Guinness Storehouse on Tuesday 8 October 2002. The event was introduced by Brian McGiolla, from Guinness and compered byLiam Ó Maolaodha, Director Oireachtas na Gaeilge.
John's book, which was reviewed in online news in April (see link below), re-examines the findings of the Gaeltacht Commission in 1926. The first Free State government set up this commission.
