Architects and Engineers of Tomorrow compete today
26 July 2002

The recently learnt skills of CTYI's young architects and engineers were pitted against each other in an informal bridge building contest.

The bridges were made out of cardboard and lollipop sticks and held together with glue and string. They were put to the test with weights to see which one would buckle under the pressure.
While the engineering class was given a budget when constructing the bridges (each lollipop used had a cost attached), the architecture class was more designed based. This approach used in the engineer class is similar to that which is used in the degree in Manufacturing Engineering with Business Studies here at DCU; students learn the financial as well as the technical considerations of construction projects.
