Former Chief Operations Officer of Smurfit Group, Paddy Wright, received an honorary doctorate from DCU at the Spring Graduation ceremony on Saturday 20 March 2004.

Patrick Wright has had a long association with the Dublin City University and chaired the Educational Trust (the fundraising arm of the university) for over six years. During this period the Educational Trust raised over €100 million which was used to build much of the fine campus in Glasnevin. Among the projects supported by the Educational Trust under Paddy Wright were; the Hub student centre, Invent, the university's innovation centre, the science block, the School of Computing, the Helix Arts Centre, the Sports Complex and the John & Aileen O'Reilly Library.

In addition to his involvement with DCU, Paddy Wright is Chairman of the RTE Authority, Chairman of Aon McDonagh Boland, a board member of Anglo Irish Bank and of Croke Park.
