Research Excellence at DCU

The President's Research Award programme was instituted in 1998 to reward the outstanding achievements of two researchers at DCU. These awards are made by the President each year; the first is for research in the humanities and related areas, the second is for research in the sciences and engineering. Previous winners of the award include Prof Jenny Williams of the school of applied language and intercultural studies who wrote an exemplary biography of the German writer Hans Fallada and Prof Brian MacCraith of the school of physical sciences who is one of the founder members of the National Centre for Sensor Research.
The awards are made to academic staff who have made significant contributions to the research effort of the university or who have brought a specific innovation to a particular field of research or area of expertise. Nominations are invited from staff members, who provide supporting evidence with their nomination. This will vary depending on the discipline of the nominee, but it should always reflect the reputation of the nominee and the significance of their research effort.
This year's awards were made by President Ferdinand von Prondzynski on Tuesday 29 January to Dr Michael Cronin of SALIS who won the award in humanities and social sciences, and Dr Patrick McNally of the school of electronic engineering, winner of the science and engineering.
