Book launch: Pain Management in Nursing Practice
Shelagh Wright, retired lecturer in psycho-oncology in DCU’s School of Nursing and Human Sciences, has just launched her book ‘Pain Management in Nursing Practice’. The book, co-published by SAGE with IASP, is the product of collaboration between the former Editor in Chief of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), Professor Maria Adele Giamberardino, and her team and Senior Commissioning Editor of SAGE, London, Alex Clabburn and his team.
The book aims to provide undergraduate nursing students with easy access to the IASP nursing curriculum content and basic concepts and theories of pain required for entry-level qualified nurses.
The book was launched by President of the IASP, Professor Rolf-Detlef Treede, at the recent Irish Pain Society 15th Annual Scientific Meeting.
At the launch author Shelagh Wright, PhD, commented:
“I am indebted to the President of Dublin City University Professor Brian MacCraith and colleagues in Senior Management, Dr Gerry Moore, former Head of Department of the School of Nursing and Human Sciences, DCU and DCU Information Systems and Services for their kind support throughout the writing of this book. I am also indebted to DCU Nursing Librarian Amanda Halpin and the kind assistance of librarians in Trinity College Dublin. The President and Committee of the Irish Pain Society provided invaluable support and encouragement throughout the writing of this book.
I am especially grateful that content from the book chapters will feature as freely accessible educational podcasts, on the CHANGE PAIN website, a non promotional pain education website sponsored by Grünenthal. SAGE and CHANGE PAIN will each feature project weblinks”.
This book was self-funded and is a post DCU retirement ‘giving- back’ project. All royalties after taxation will be donated to nurse education in pain management.
