DCU Mercy claim Women’s Premier League title
DCU Mercy claimed their first piece of silverware in five years by securing the Women’s Premier League regular season title at the weekend. The Glasnevin outfit entered last weekend’s tie against Maxol WIT Wildcats on the back of twelve league wins to date and secure in the knowledge that their consistent performances throughout the season had earned them a much coveted league crown. Despite a 76-55 loss to Maxol WIT Wildcats at home on Sunday it had no impact on the destination of the title as the earlier loss of Killester to Meteors left them firmly in the driving seat.
DCU currently sit top of the Women’s Premier League table on 38 points with two games remaining and with nearest rivals Team Montenotte Hotel on 34 points.
A delighted team captain Sarah Woods highlighted the importance of her side’s consistent level of performance throughout a gruelling campaign and also the satisfaction for all involved in the club at what had been achieved.
