DCU student makes Irish team for World University Boxing Championships

Céire Smith, a DCU Sports Science student, has been selected for the Irish team for the World University Boxing Championships.

Céire will travel to Chaing Mai, Thailand to compete in the 7th ever Championships, which will begin on 3rd October. Only two Irish boxers have ever represented Ireland at this prestigious competition.

The Cavan native will join the Irish team consisting of Gary McKenna, Christina Desmond, Conor Wallace and Kenneth Okungbowa. According to Irish-Boxing.com,  the championships feature a top-quality field and are a major date in the calendars of some top boxing nations such as Kazakhstan, Russia, and Mongolia.

She made it to the quarter-finals of the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.
