DCU Brexit Institute to lead an EU consortium which aims to address some of Europe’s toughest challenges

The DCU Brexit Institute has been awarded a major grant from the European Union Erasmus+ Programme for a three-year project which aims to expand our understanding of the challenges facing the EU and its member states post-Brexit.

The Jean Monnet Network project entitled BRIDGE (Brexit Research and Interchange on Differentiated Governance in Europe) will bring together scholars from across Europe to share knowledge and ideas on how to address some of the toughest challenges facing the continent.

Coordinated by the Brexit Institute at DCU, the consortium also includes partners in the University of Bolzano/ Bozen, University of Copenhagen and Central European University Budapest.

The primary aim of BRIDGE is to understand how one key challenge facing the EU – Brexit – is interconnected with other contemporaneous challenges – the Euro crisis, Migration, and the Rule of Law crisis – in order to find common overarching solutions.

Commenting on the award, Professor Federico Fabbrini, Director of the DCU Brexit Institute at DCU, said:

"The Brexit Institute at DCU is delighted to be able to start a project in network with leading European academic institutions, such as the University of Bolzano / Bozen, the University of Copenhagen and Central European University. The BRIDGE project builds on solid personal connections and will allow us to push research and policy into the future."

Greg Hughes, VP of Research at Dublin City University, added:

"DCU is delighted that the Brexit Institute has secured significant EU-funding from the Erasmus+ programme for the Jean Monnet Network project BRIDGE which will greatly enhance the profile of the Brexit Institute on the European stage."

BRIDGE will facilitate a series of public events allowing scholars to share their research with one another and engage in broader debate about these issues with key decision-makers and the general public.
