DCU welcomes Director General for Translation in the EU

DCU was pleased to welcome the Director-General for Translation in the European Commission, Mr. Rytis Martikonis to campus today (October 22nd) to meet with academics from SALIS, Fiontar & Scoil na Gaeilge and The ADAPT Research Centre.

In a wide ranging discussion with senior academics and leaders from the aforementioned schools and centre, Mr Martikonis learned of the University's Master's programmes in translation (MA in Translation Studies and MSc in Translation Technology); avenues to avail of opportunities in the EU after Brexit, and also how to provide Irish language translators and interpreters in preparation for the end of derogation of the status of Irish in the EU from 2022.

Mr Martkikonis previously visited DCU in 2017 when the university hosted a meeting of the European Master's in Translation (EMT) network in 2017.

The translation programmes at DCU are affilitated with this network which is chaired by Mr Martikonis and also includes DCU's Dr Joss Moorkens, Assistant Professor, SALIS.
