DCU student on shortlist of Enterprise Ireland Student Entrepreneur Awards

Third year Computer Applications student Sean Fradl has been shortlisted for the Enterprise Ireland Student Entrepreneur Awards. Sean is one of ten projects that will be competing for the grand prize of €10,000 plus the opportunity to avail of €30,000 worth of specialist advice and assistance from Enterprise Ireland to potentially help turn their enterprise idea into a business reality.

Sean’s project

Project Bellerophon is the first product of Equine.App. It is a cloud based equine nutrition based diet planner. With the application, equine nutritionists can generate and modify reports on the fly through any device. The application stores information regarding client’s horses, feed nutrients, and generates reports. Once a device has used the application before, it can be used in an offline mode which updates the reports in the cloud upon reconnecting. This is ideal for rural areas where internet connectivity can be poor.

Sean Fradl said

“Bellerophon is currently being tested and tuned with Connolly’s Red Mills, who are a large global exporter of horse feeds. They’re seeing on average an 800% decrease in time taken to make a diet plan, which is huge and really shows the potential of the project.

I’m hoping to develop more applications that will sit within Equine.App.

It’s fantastic to have made the shortlist for the Student Entrepreneur Awards. I’m really looking forward to giving my final presentation next week.”
