City Biologic, a microbiology testing laboratory based at DCU, today received the ILAB (Irish Laboratory Accreditation Board) certificate, making it the only university campus-based laboratory in Ireland to be internationally accredited to ISO 17025 for the microbiological examination of water.

The certification relates to a range of tests as specified in the laboratory's scope of accreditation. Following today's award by Dr Maire Walsh, Chairperson of the National Accreditation Board, City Biologic is now a designated `Category A' public testing laboratory, Registration No 123T.

The laboratory provides a public testing service, as well as a service to industry.

"The laboratory was custom-built, which allows us to carry out a broad range of testing procedures," said Robert Lawson, Quality Manager at City Biologic, "and the range of analyses we undertake is extremely diverse." The testing protocols comply with international standards and ensure that clients can adhere to legislative requirements, particularly in relation to the environment.

Dr Brid Quilty, Director of City Biologic and Robert Lawson, Quality Manager, work closely with their clients who come from within Ireland and the U.K.
