Mr Tom Mulcahy is to take over as Chairman of the DCU Educational Trust from Mr Paddy Wright.

Mr Mulcahy, was Chief Executive of AIB Group from 1994 until his recent retirement in June 2001. He will remain on the Board of AIB US and Polish subsidiaries.

The DCU Educational Trust was set up in 1988 to foster private sector support for the development of Dublin City University. The Trust follows the priorities of the University including responding to the national needs of industry and commerce; strengthening the University's research capacity; and encouraging the next generation of Irish youth to pursue research endeavours.

Over the past six years the Educational Trust has raised in excess of £80 million under the chairmanship of Mr Paddy Wright and the funds have been used to sponsor research in key academic areas and to transform the campus.

Recent building projects supported by the Trust include; the John & Aileen O'Reilly Library, the extension to the Computer Applications building, the Invent business incubator centre and the 11,000 square metre Arts Centre, which is due to be completed in the middle of 2002.

Mr Paddy Wright will remain on the Board of Trustees the DCU Educational Trust. He recently retired as President and COO of Jefferson Smurfit Group Plc. His is currently Chairman of the RTE Authority and Chairman of Aon MacDonagh Boland Group.
