Supervising Masters and Doctoral Students (formerly called 'Masters by Research/Doctorate Supervisory Styles, Roles and Responsibilities')

The Graduate Studies Office, together with the Learning & Development section of Human Resources have designed this programme to support PhD supervisors in developing excellent researchers.
Please note that, under DCU Academic Regulations, this training is mandatory for those new to research supervision, or new to supervising at DCU, and must be undertaken within one year of starting to supervise.
The aims of the programme are to:

explore the multifaceted role of supervision in a PhD context

provide practical advice on how to establish and maintain the supervisor-student relationship

examine the skills in managing expectations and giving constructive, actionable feedback

highlight DCU policies, regulations and procedures around supervision
