Examining Research Students

The Graduate Studies Office, together with the Learning & Development section of Human Resources have designed this programme to support staff who are appointed as internal examiners for Masters by Research, Professional Doctorates or PhDs.

Please note that, under DCU Academic Regulations, this training is mandatory for those new to examination of the awards listed above if the examiner does not meet the criteria set out in the Academic Regulations for Postgraduate Degrees by Research and Thesis.

The session will last for 2.5 hours.

The aims of the programme are to:

  • Explain the role and responsibilities of the Internal Examiner

  • Explain the regulations, policies and procedures that pertain to examining the awards listed above

  • Ensure that internal examiners are well-positioned to carry out their duties as examiners

Please note that a minimum of 5 participants is required to run this session.
