Academic biography

Marie Conroy Johnson is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Education at Dublin City University. Marie is a former post-primary teacher and principal and has developed and worked on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at third level in the areas of initial teacher education, school/professional placement, school leadership, education and the law and research methodology. 

Marie was Director of Professional Placement on the Bachelor of Religious Education and English/History/Music programme in DCU IOE from 2016-2022. She was also a member of the DCU IOE Placement and Related Partnership Faculty Committee and the Advisory Board for Placements and Related Partnerships. She currently represents the School of Policy and Practice on the DCU IOE Workload Steering Group and has recently joined the Advisory Board for the DCU Changemaker programme.  

Along with colleagues Dr Audrey Doyle, Dr Enda Donlon, Dr Elaine McDonald and Dr PJ Sexton, Marie was the recipient of the DCU President's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2021) Team award for innovative work in online professional placement and assessment. She was also part of a team with Dr. Bernadette Ní Áingléis and Professor Martin Brown who were finalists in the DCU President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (2019) and the DCU President’s Award for Engagement (2020)  for their work in the area of Child Safeguarding.
