University Life

You know the importance of a third-level education, but you also want to know that you’re going to have a good time, make new friends and, quite possibly, experience life away from home. DCU is one of the top universities in the country and as you will see in this prospectus, we have a great range of academic courses. But what about the rest?

Let’s just forget about lectures, projects and exams for a minute and focus on everything else that makes up university life.

Over the next few years, you’ll have an entirely new experience. You’ll also discover a lot about yourself. Life at university can be daunting at first, but the endless possibilities should fill you with excitement – and DCU can certainly deliver on that.

Start with the basics: accommodation. As well as nearly 1,000 beds on campus there are plenty of rental opportunities just off campus too, so you’ll never be far from all the action.

There’s a great buzz around DCU and “The Hub” student centre is the perfect place to meet friends. Having a good student life is one of the great things about the campus and there is always something on.

Joining some of the clubs or societies is one of the easiest way to make friends as you’ll be hanging around with like-minded people. And there’s a huge selection to choose from. Whether you want to compete against yourself (rock-climbing), against others (tennis, fencing), as part of a team (rugby, GAA, soccer), or or would prefer to discover your creative side through drama, fashion, music… you’ll find plenty of other students who want to do exactly the same. Then there’s always the state-of-the-art sports complex which includes a 25m pool with sauna, Jacuzzi and tepidarium where you can relax after a workout in our fully-equipped fitness centre.

You’ll find out more during Fresher’s Week, when our student representatives will be out and about encouraging you to join in.

University life is about fun, opportunity, friendship, learning… and a whole lot more. Yes it can seem challenging – but isn’t that part of the excitement? And yes, there will be some hard work – which will make the results all the more rewarding. But these really are the best years of your life. And at DCU, you’ll be able to make the most of them.

The sign of a great education is your first job… the sign of a truly exciting education is a set of skills that can take you anywhere.
