Office of Student Life

Life.dcu.ie

The Office of Student Life (formerly the Student Finance Committee) is the umbrella body for the Students' Union, Clubs and Societies in Dublin City University. It is based in the student Centre – The Hub- which houses its staff and facilities, including meeting rooms, computer facilities, a large venue and many other support services vital for a vibrant student life on campus.

It was instrumental in establishing the Uaneen Module, which formally recognises the learning gained by involvement in student activities, and continues to promote and manage many aspects of its operation. For more information on this please see www.dcu.ie/uaneen . Each year the Office of Student Life recognises and celebrates the achievements of student Clubs and Societies, through the Clubs and Socs Awards. Please see http://www.dcu.ie/students/activities/awards.shtml for more information.

  • The aim of the Office of Student Life is to promote the holistic development of all students through an appropriate balance of curricular and co-curricular activities, while ensuring the protection of students and the University against the misuse of capitation or other funds.
  • The Office of Student Life aims to promote and enhance the student experience outside the classroom by providing opportunities for student growth and development. The Office works with the University to complement the traditional academic mission, by supporting recognized clubs and societies and the Students' Union and by encouraging creative learning and leadership development.

Students' Union

Our Students' Union provides a wide range of services, including advice on employment opportunities while you're studying, bus and rail ticket sales and secretarial services, as well as an extensive programme of student entertainment on and off campus. All students of the University are automatically members of the Union, which also co-ordinates and expresses your views on all issues relating to students at DCU. These include education, welfare and social and recreational matters. There are twelve executive officers, three of whom are full time sabbatical officer, who are elected by the students and each class has a number of elected representatives on Union Council. These representatives also sit on the Programme Boards. Students are also represented by the Students' Union on various University decision-making committees, including the Governing Authority, Academic Council, Disciplinary Committee and Library Committee.

The Sabbatical officers for 2007-2008 are as follows:
