Personal Development
At DCU we take a holistic approach to education, we realise that education is not just about gaining an expertise in a certain area but it’s about educating people for life.
William Butler Yeats – “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”
For example some courses have specific modules to help you with your study, to foster creativity and evoke enterprise.
Mentorship programme
We also value the importance of DCU graduates helping current students. The mentorship programme allows graduates share their experience with current students to help them with their professional development. What is Mentorship?
Mentoring is an interactive learning and educational experience, provided to students to assist them in their personal and career development. Each mentoring relationship involves two people to facilitate an exchange of business experience, knowledge, expertise and career advice. A mentorship pair consists of a mentor and a mentee (student). The mentor acts as a role model for the student. The mentor shares his/her personal and business experiences to advise, guide and inform the student.

Uaneen module
DCU formally recognises and rewards the achievement of holistic education by accrediting a module in extra-curricular activities – the Uaneen Module. This essentially means that DCU will reward you for having fun but contributing to student life by getting involved in clubs & societies.
The Uaneen Module is a unique scheme that formally recognises the work done and learning acquired by students with University and outside clubs, societies, community work and extra-curricular activity in general.
DCU is the first third level institution in the Republic of Ireland to reward extracurricular activity in such a manner.
