The nursing programme is really enjoyable. It may be new but it is conducted in an effective and impressive way. All the lecturers are so helpful. The programme is giving me an opportunity to study and learn about people from different cultures and people as a whole.
Olasupo, B.Sc. Nursing (General), year 4 student in 2005/2006.

Having just completed my Bachelor of Nursing Studies Degree, I found the diverse range of topics were very relevant to contemporary nursing in Ireland. DCU afforded me a first-class learning environment with excellent lecturers and library facilities (both on-site and on-line).
Edward, Bachelor of Nursing Studies, November 2004.

As a mature student doing the modular Bachelor of Nursing Studies, I found the course really stimulating and worthwhile. The course involved attending lectures on one evening and one full day each week which fitted in well with my working arrangements.

Analytical Science at DCU is right in touch with the demands of Irish industry. Personally, the best aspect of the course was its six month work placement and the practical laboratory work carried out during projects.
Carol, Failure Analysis Engineer, Hewlett Packard, 2000 graduate.

From the variety of subjects in first and second years, I had the opportunity to specialise in either Biology or Chemistry. I chose the former and I felt the combination of diversity and specialisation made me very employable in the biopharmaceutical industry.
Dursey, Vaccine Analyst, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Grange Castle, 2001 graduate.

Science Education

I have very positive memories of Science Education . The course is based around hands-on experience and the combination of science and education added a good balance to my studies. From the very first year of the programme I had teaching experience. The advice I received from

practising” teachers who came on campus for particular courses was incredibly useful and a valuable part of the programme. The foundation I now have prepares me for work in a number of different environments – be it research, industry or education.
Elaine, Science Teacher, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry.

An enjoyable and invaluable experience that allowed me to pursue a very fulfilling career in science education.
Claire, Secondary School Teacher, , Drogheda, 2003 graduate.

Chemistry

After four years of studying chemistry, the two real highlights were the six months’ work placement and the final year project. They offered invaluable insights into the pharmaceutical industries and academia, as well as an opportunity to put theory into practice.
Emma, QC Analyst, Wyeth Biopharma, Grange Castle, 2000 graduate.

Faculty of Engineering and Computing

Electronic Engineering

The INTRA placement, was so beneficial allowing me to piece together all the elements studied over the years. Gillian, Electronic Engineering, Year 4

Mechatronic Engineering

A labour intensive course that gets to the heart of Mechatronic Engineering. Graduates will come out thinking like engineers. It has a wider scope than mechanical or electronic engineering, resulting in perhaps a better understanding overall, and a better set of skills that can be applied to a very broad range of design and engineering problems. Brian, Year 4, Mechatronic Engineering.

Mechanical Engineering

I am gaining real skills and experience in all aspects of Engineering and Business. Already I have a good working knowledge of day-to-day manufacturing and the business behind its operation. The employment possibilities are great, with the medical device and pharmaceutical industries being the obvious path for me. The Business element of the course provides excellent potential to quick step into any Management position. Alan, Year 4, Manufacturing Engineering with Business Studies

Computer Applications

There’s something for everyone in this course, because of the wide range of subject choices and different stream options. There is also a great support system in place for students, so although the course is challenging at times, there’s always help at hand.
Aisling, Computer Applications (Information Systems), Year 3.

Thanks to my degree in CA, I’ve had the opportunity not just to learn the secrets of computing, but to spend 6 months working in Boston for one of the top e-commerce companies in the world. Your university experience is what you make it, and with DCU’s degree in Computer Applications, it can be made great.
Declan O’Neill, Computer Applications (Software Engineering), Year 4.

Eoin, Business Studies 1993 Executive Producer,

European Business

I had a unique opportunity to live and work in a different country and become fluent in another language. That practical experience and staff knowledge meant that my education was both relevant and constructive. I gained a real sense of accomplishment and camaraderie that made my time at DCU really enjoyable”. Gareth, Senior Tax Executive, KPMG AF Graduate 2000

AF is an excellent degree programme. It gave me the knowledge, skill and values to boost my subsequent career development. The qualification is very highly regarded among the accounting and business communities and it helps students to pursue a variety of challenging careers.
Siobhan, Executive Manager Finance, Hibernian General Insurance AF Graduate 1991

International Business & Languages

I chose IBL because I wanted a course that would give me the best of both worlds: languages and business. In today’s world, a business degree isn’t always enough and someone who’s well-rounded and well-travelled, with a foreign language, can have a greater appeal for an organisation. I got a great grounding in all business aspects, allowing me to differentiate myself from others in my chosen specialisms of French and Finance.
Marie-Claire, Graduate of IBLFG, 2005.

I really enjoyed my time in DCU studying IBL. I am currently based in Listowel on the Kerry Group Graduate Programme. I am a commercial graduate, working in the Customer Services department of Kerry Ingredients Ireland. I deal with customers in Ireland, the UK, France, Belgium, Germany and Italy on a daily basis, but my main dealings are with the US market. I will be based in Ireland until about March, then I will transfer to the north of France to take on a more direct role with my customers there”. Emma Jane, IBL 2005.

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Communications

There is only one course in Ireland where you can write a film script, research the history of graffiti art, shoot in a professional photography studio, study the techniques of film noir, invade a campus armed with video cameras, and broadcast your own radio show live to nine thousand students, all at once. The BA in Communications Studies - there’s simply no other course like it!” Riona, BA in Communications Studies 2002-2005

Multimedia

When I started the B.Sc. in Multimedia I felt incredibly lucky because I had found classes and people to inspire me technically and creatively. The degree isn’t simply a

training course” – it requires you to drive yourself, to focus on your own strengths and to be creative and innovate with every piece of work you do.
Paul May, Student’s Union President, 2005

Economics, Politics and Law

This is an exceptionally interesting course, teaching you about how the world really works. There are unique modules taught nowhere else in Ireland and the lecturers have very innovative ways of teaching. But it’s not all about the course. DCU is the best University in the country with exceptionally active societies that actually reward students for getting involved. You get marks for extra-curricular work. And there’s a society for everyone. If I could change one thing I would make my time in DCU longer.
John, Economics, Politics and Law, Year 3

International Relations

With a varied content ranging from the study of political terrorism to women in politics, I feel my course has something to offer everyone – and, due to its structure, each student gets to study the areas that most interest them. The BA in International Relations is one of DCU’s newest and most exciting courses, and this is one of the best experiences of my life. James, International Relations Year 3

If you're interested in global politics, international trade, human rights or the causes of war then the BA in International Relations is definitely the course for you! There's no course like it anywhere else in Ireland. The lecturers are always on hand to provide great advice and up-to-date information on whatever subjects interest you, and DCU offers a unique learning environment for all its students. It's definitely one of a kind that has so much to offer even the most demanding of students.
Elaine, International Relations Year 3
