Postgraduate Opportunities in the Rince Institute

The establishment of the Rince Institute offers exciting opportunities to students considering postgraduate education at either Ph.D. or Masters level. As part of an on-going recruitment drive, the School of Electronic Engineering is actively seeking talented, motivated and self-disciplined graduates as future members of RINCE research teams. Generous research studentships are available in all disciplines targeted by Rince. Studentships will offer successful applicants the following challenges:

performing research in areas at the cutting edge of technological development

working as part of a high quality research team in a state of the art purpose built laboratory facility

representing a research group, the School and the University in various national and international forums (conferences, workshops, etc.)

collaborative involvement in various European Union funding framework activities

developing the software, hardware and project management skills essential in a future career in engineering, IT or related disciplines

Applicants should hold, or expect to hold, a first class honours (or a higher second class honours degree) in engineering, physics, computing science or mathematics. Applicants should also possess the ability to work effectively in a collaborative inter-disciplinary environment

Postdoctoral and Visiting Researcher Opportunities in the Rince Institute

Exciting postdoctoral research opportunities are available in RINCE in the form of a substantial number of generous research fellowships. Appointed fellows will join an existing Rince research group with a view to carrying out research (basic or applied) in line with the group's on-going activities. As such, applicants should hold a Ph.D. in a research field related to the activities of the target group. In addition to a personal research agenda within the context of group activities, appointed fellows will have the opportunity to assist academic staff members in the co-ordination of postgraduate (and possibly final year undergraduate) projects targeted at assisting or expanding these activities. During the establishment phase of Rince, fellows will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development and maintenance of purpose-built research facilities. For instance, this may include assisting in the purchase and installation of appropriate equipment, specifying a common software development framework, etc. During the course of their employment, fellows may be required to represent their group in various collaborative research forums (e.g. European Union Fifth Framework projects) and will be expected to promote RINCE research results in the form of regular journal, conference and workshop publications.

Rince supports a visiting researcher programme targeted at established researchers from universities, institutes and industrial research facilities around the world. This programme benefits researchers considering sabbatical leave from present employment in order to concentrate purely on their research interests. Visiting researchers will join an existing Rince group and will be free to pursue their personal research agenda as part of this group's activities. They will have the opportunity to draw on the group's research facilities and to specify and co-ordinate undergraduate and post-graduate research projects in order to assist their research.
