Graduation Awards 2013 | Uaneen Module

This year we had a record number of students graduating from the Uaneen Module. 103 in total. 

The Uaneen Graduation Receptions were held on Friday 8th & Saturday 9th November 2013 in The Gallery, The Helix.  Master of Ceremonies for Friday's Reception was Kara McGann from IBEC and Saturday's Reception was Una Redmond, Manager, Office of Student Life.

The receptions were well attended by the recipients, their families and key University staff. We were particulary delighted to have Prof. Brian MacCraith, University President, attend and speak at Friday's reception and Jim Dowling, Deputy President attend on Saturday. Our Guest Speakers were Daráine Mulvihill and Colin Cunningham.

Daráine Mulvihill

Daraine is a DCU Communication Studies graduate.  Daraine is also an Uaneen Alumni.  Daráine was hit with a life-threatening strain of meningitis and left with permanent disabilities at the age of 16. In recognition of her bravery and strength in overcoming the illness, she received an 'Irish Person of the Year' award in 2001 and was appointed as a youth representative to the Council of State, advisory body to the President of Ireland. Presenting roles in RTÉs kids tv were followed by a move to London which involved training with BBC, ESPN and Sky Sports News. In August–September 2012, Daraine presented the daily Paralympics morning show. She is currently presenting the RTE2 show "In Your Shoes" and is working as sports reporter with RTE Sport.

Colin Cunningham

Colin graduated from DCU with a degree in Electronic Engineering. While at DCU Colin served as Chairperson Dublin Business Enterprise Society, was President of the Students Union and was a member of the GAA fotball team.  Colin has spent his career to date at the forefront of the evolving mobile telecoms industry in Ireland and various other countries including UK, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Dubai, and India. Colin co-founded Vilicom Ltd and was CEO from 2000 - 2008. Vilicom provides turn-key solutions in the areas of indoor RF coverage solutions, singe operator and shared solutions, consultancy in radio design and transmission design and newtwork coverage testing ond optimisation services.  Currently, Colin works as an independent consultant through his own limited company and successfully managed the launch of Cinergy Ltd. in Novermber 2009.
