Academic biography
Henrique M. Barros holds a PhD in Business Studies from the University of Warwick (UK) and has completed further training at Harvard Business School in both Entrepreneurship and Participant-Centred Learning. Henrique is currently an Assistant Professor in Innovation at DCU Business School (DCUBS), where he also serves as the Chairperson for the Bachelor in Marketing, Innovation, and Technology (MINT).
Henrique's research interests are broadly focused on the strategic management of innovation. His work explores the intersections between innovation, entrepreneurship, and strategy. He has conducted research on topics including Intellectual Property, Innovation Ecosystems, Open Innovation, and Mergers and Acquisitions. His potential research areas further include Technology Transfer, University Entrepreneurship, Digital Innovation, Secrecy, Board Interlocks, Frugal Innovation, and Sustainable Innovation.
Dr. Barros's scholarship has appeared in leading scientific journals such as Research Policy, Technovation, and the Journal of Technology Transfer. He has also received peer recognition, securing best paper awards or nominations at scientific conferences hosted by prominent bodies, including the International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM), the European Academy of Management (EURAM), the International Association for Management of Technology (IAMOT), and the Brazilian Academy of Management.
Henrique holds several significant service roles. He contributes to academic publishing as a member of the editorial boards for the International Journal of Innovation (IJI), InterNext - International Business and Management Review, and RAE – Revista de Administração de Empresas. He also reviews manuscripts for various academic journals. Furthermore, he serves as an ad hoc consultant for the Research Support Foundations of the States of São Paulo (FAPESP) and Bahia (FAPESB) in Brazil, and is an active member of the Business School’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Before joining DCU in 2021, Dr. Barros held academic leadership roles in Brazil, serving as a researcher, lecturer, programme director, and department head. He was a member of the scientific committees of both the Brazilian Academy of Management (ANPAD) and the Brazilian Association for Undergraduate Studies in Management (ANGRAD).

Henrique's research interest lies broadly in the strategic management of innovation. Currently, he has been working on topics related to Intellectual Property, Innovation Ecosystems, Open Innovation and Mergers and Acquisitions. Additional topics that might be of his interest are Technology Transfer, University Entrepreneuship, Digital Innovation, Secrecy, Board Interlocks, Frugal Innovation, and Sustainable Innovation.
