Tell It Straight Competition

Tell It Straight Competition

The School of English extends its congratulations to first-year PhD student, Siba Ewaiwi, who was chosen as runner-up in this year’s Tell It Straight competition. Run by the DCU Graduate Studies Office, Tell It Straight challenges PhD students to present their research to a general audience in five minutes. Siba spoke about her doctoral research on ‘The representation of female football protagonists in fictional writings from 1921 onwards.’

The competition, now in its ninth year, saw over 80 applicants in 2022, eventually narrowed down to just fourteen final speakers. Siba presented alongside other first-year research students in category one, which featured work from across the university on a range of topics from vaccine hesitancy to epilepsy and wound healing to refugee initiatives. Siba’s work on women’s soccer in literature impressed the judges and she was a deserved winner of the runner-up prize. Well done, Siba!
