The Peggy O'Brien Book Award

The Peggy O'Brien Book Award  has been awarded to Johnny Cash International (University of Iowa Press), co-authored by Michael Hinds from DCU's School of English and Jonathan Silverman of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, USA. The biennial prize is named in honour of Professor Peggy O'Brien, and is awarded for the best monograph published in American Studies.

The Judges stated that "Johnny Cash International" is insightful, original, and an incredibly entertaining read, notable for the sense of empathy shown to its  subjects and the sense of international adventure it brought to the field of American Studies. The award was presented at the University of Limerick, which hosted the Annual Conference of the Irish Association for American Studies on the weekend of 29th-30th April.
