Dr Ellen Howley is DCU’s Irish Humanities Alliance Board Member
The Irish Humanities Alliance (IHA) has undergone a recent restructure of its board and Dr Ellen Howley from the School of English will be DCU’s board member in this new iteration. A list of all board members is available on the IHA website.
The IHA is a joint initiative of humanities researchers within higher education and research institutions including 13 universities across the island of Ireland and the Royal Irish Academy, which hosts and supports the IHA. The IHA provides a platform for all-island humanities collaboration and consultation and promotes parity of esteem between humanities disciplines.
Dr Howley has been a board member since 2024 and in that time has attended quarterly board meetings both in-person and online, hosting the January 2025 meeting on the All Hallows Campus. She has also taken part in IHA events promoting the value of research in the Humanities and contributed an article to the IHA blog.
Acknowledging the value of the IHA, Dr Howley said, “I am passionate about the work that the IHA does and have seen first-hand the importance of their lobbying in support of the Humanities. This is necessary work, particularly at this crucial juncture in the landscape of research in Ireland.” She added, “I am delighted to continue to serve on the board and hope to be a point of contact between the DCU Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the IHA.”
