Roddy Doyle Event

Woodlock Hall was the setting for the opening ceremony of the DCU / Rutgers creative writing summer school, on Wednesday 11 June. Special guest of honour was the great Roddy Doyle, who came to All Hallows to read from his work, to talk about his writing career. He also gave valuable guidance on his process to visiting students from Rutgers University, New Jersey, and students of DCU’s MA in Creative Writing. A memorable evening, hosted by Dr Darran McCann, Chair of the MA in Creative Writing, and featuring music from ‘The Commitments’ by Brian Gilloway and Podge Kilbride. The gathering was also addressed by DCU President Dáire Keogh, visiting Rutgers professor Alex Dawson, and DCU Artist In Residence Dave Rudden. The event was part of the ongoing DCU/Rutgers summer school, a collaboration involving emerging writers from Ireland and America.

Darran McCann said: ‘Rutgers and DCU are seeking to forge links across all areas, so it’s a particular pleasure to see creative writing at the forefront of these efforts to build relationships across the Atlantic.’
