Academic biography

Niamh lectures in Ethical and Intercultural Education in St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra. Previously, Niamh taught in an Educate Together school for ten years. Her experience includes working as Learn Together Ethical Education Co-coordinator, and as a pre-service and in-service facilitator for Educate Together. Niamh also spent a number of years lecturing on the Master in Education Studies (Intercultural Education) in Marino Institute of Education. She has co-authored a number of teaching resources on social justice themes. Niamh is currently completing a Doctorate in Education (SPD/DCU) and her research interests include racism and anti-racism, ethnic, cultural and religious diversity, religion and education, school ethos, and citizenship.

Research interests

Niamh is currently completing a Doctorate in Education (SPD/DCU) under the working title: An exploration of Educate Together primary school teachers' understandings of racisms and anti-racisms and of their experiences of teaching about racisms and anti-racisms.

Niamh's other research interests include critical multiculturalism, intercultural education, multicultural education, antiracist education, ethics and ethical education, critical race theory, critical pedagogy, race and ethnicity, racism and anti-racism, multiculturalism, religion and education, school ethos, and citizenship.
