Irene White is Assistant Professor and Joint Programme Chair of the Professional Master of Education at the School of Human Development, Dublin City University. Irene lectures in English Education, Drama Education, Advanced Teaching Strategies and Academic Writing and Reading. She supervises masters research students and she is school placement tutor on a range of initial teacher education programmes. Irene taught English and Drama at post-primary level for twelve years, during which time she was mentor for initial teacher education students and a State Exams Commission examiner for the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme. In the field of community-engaged theatre, she has worked with Upstate Theatre Project on The Crossover Project, a cross-border, cross-community participative drama programme funded by Border Action and with students from the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, New York University on the study abroad programme. Irene has also worked with Smashing Times Theatre Company on the ‘Acting for the Future' programme using drama and theatre performance to promote positive mental health and raise awareness of issues surrounding suicide and suicide prevention with adolescents in second level schools north and south of the border. Irene is on the Board of Directors for Upstate Theatre Project and she is a member of the Association for Drama in Education in Ireland (ADEI).
