INTO Equality Conference

Dr Maeve O’Brien Head of the School of Human Development was an invited keynote speaker at the INTO Equality Conference held on Friday 30th September at the Heritage Hotel Killenard Co Laois. There were almost 400 teacher delegates in attendance at the conference.

The theme of the conference was Gender and Progression in Primary Teaching. Dr O’Brien’s own research has focused on inequalities in the performance of care in professional and other contexts and its impact on identity. She addressed gender inequality as a complex issue in a feminised profession. Her talk invited the audience to problematize notions of gender and inequality while recognising the disproportion of men in leadership positions in primary education although the profession is 85% female.
