Academic biography

I worked as a primary school teacher in areas of disadvantage for a number of years before continuing my studies in Educational Psychology. Since qualifying as an Educational Psychologist I have worked for NEPS panel of psychologists and on a variety of research projects in St Patrick’s College. I worked as a lecturer in the Special Education department for three years before commencing my position as lecturer in Psychology in the school of Human Development in the Institute of Education in DCU.

Research interests

The focus of my doctoral research was investigating the role of extended contact/vicarious experience of friendship on children's attitudes towards the Irish Traveller community. The impact of extended contact on children's intended friendship behaviour towards Travellers was also examined along with their perceptions of the acceptability of cross group friendships.

I am currently the principal investigator on a DES funded project investigating bullying towards Traveller and Roma pupils in Ireland.
